Building Inspections in Jakarta Tightened to Prevent Fires

Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung emphasized that the Jakarta Provincial Government is about to increase surveillance of all buildings in Jakarta following the fire incident at the PT Terra Drone office building, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (12/9) afternoon.

I already requested to check all buildings this week

This effort is made to prevent similar incidents from happening again.

"I already requested to check all buildings this week," he said, Wednesday (12/10).

According to him, the main problem with fires is the building's non-compliance with safety and evacuation standards. Fire incidents, he continued, often occur in buildings constructed without adequate safety requirements.

Despite being known to have fire extinguishing systems like hydrants, the building is deemed to have violated regulations, particularly regarding evacuation routes. This situation resulted in numerous fatalities as a result of the incident.

"This was definitely built without any regulations, and judging by the structure and everything, they definitely broke the rules. Why? The stairs are so small, and that's why some people can't get down," he added.

However, the Jakarta Provincial Government will fully cover funeral costs for the deceased and medical treatment costs for the injured.
